Books to Delve Into, 2009

Shelby and I are working on reading lists for 2009. Funny thing is, I didn't realize Shelby was working on her own list until I mentioned that I'd like to pick up some classics (and not-so-classics) that I have neglected to read over the years.

Also interesting: we chose some of the same books!

My list is comprised of books that I've not read, and/or books that I don't think I've read. Take Wuthering Heights, for example: I'm pretty sure I read this back in high school, but I have no recollection of it. And another book, The Bell Jar: I skimmed through it back in 1990, picking up passages here and there for an English paper on Sylvia Plath, but again...no real memory of the story.

Without further ado, my list of Books to Delve Into, 2009 Edition:

Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier

The Time Traveler's Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger

Anna Karenina, by Leo Tolstoy

Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand

Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte

The Historian, by Elizabeth Kostova

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, by Lewis Carroll

The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood

The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath

The Awful Rowing Toward God, by Anne Sexton

The Sound and the Fury, by William Faulkner

Oh, and lest I forget, 2009 is the year of the "Read the Good Trash Movement" This is one challenge I think I can handle...I loved the VC Andrews books when I was younger. Good and smutty, right?

I loved The Historian and The Time-Traveler's Wife! I've got a copy of Anna Karenina you may have; I think I *may* have made it through Chapter One, but not much past that.

Give me trash, like Janet Evanovich!

Never read Janet Evanovich...maybe I'll give it a shot. Those books were very popular with the little old blue-haired ladies at the library! ;-)

And Anna Karenina is still in the floorboard of the van, from when you gave it to me the other day. I'm feeling anxious, just thinking about cracking that one open!
